BIC Africa participated in the Ethiopian Diaspora & Startup workshop held online & in Addis Ababa

On the 3rd of February 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM EAT the Ethiopian Diaspora & Startup Online & Onsite workshop titled “Engaging Ethiopian Diaspora professionals and boosting the Ethiopian startup ecosystem” was held in Addis Ababa. The workshop was organized by the Private Sector Development Ethiopia (PSDE) project funded by GIZ and hosted by the Ethiopian Startup Ecosystem association (EASE) supported by EBN and with the contribution of international expert Sébastien Dagault from LiNXEO. 

The workshop aimed at highlighting & connecting selected startups and universities / R&D projects in Ethiopia with diaspora professionals & networks. The experts shared best practices and tools to facilitate diaspora engagement and boost the Ethiopian startup ecosystem (mentoring & business development, funding, training & capacity building). 

During the closing session, Raffaele Buompane, project manager at EBN, presented the BIC Africa, ENRICH in Africa and AEDI|NET projects and shared the potential synergies as well as current and future project activities supporting the startup ecosystem across Africa. 

The workshop brought together several startups, business incubators, universities, diaspora professionals, investment & business experts, and international donors and was attended by over 100 participants Onsite (Addis Ababa) & online. In addition, the AfriLabs executive director Anna Ekeledo, Nanko Madu director of programmes and some AfriLab members from east Africa and Dawit Dagnew from EBN participated in person.
