Mapping Somalia Business Incubators Ecosystem

Mapping Somalia Business Incubators Ecosystem

Under the Business Incubators to Support Entrepreneurship and MSME Creation in Somalia project, funded by the EU and managed by a UNIDO, conducted business incubators mapping for Somalia.

In order to select a suitable partner, UNIDO designed an approach which includes an extensive mechanism of selection process. An Independent consulting firm was assigned to carry out independent verification of the institutional capacity for each incubator to inform the decision of the project steering committee on the selection of incubators for the project.

The assessment was based on a set of parameters measuring the operational strength and service delivery capacity of existing Somali incubators. Based on the shortlist prepared by the consulting firm, the UNIDO team conduct physical verification of the incubators referred by the firm. A team of UNIDO experts visited HarHub, Ganacsikaab, Tilmmame i-HUB, I-Rise, and SIMAD-ilab business incubators in Hargeissa, Garowe and Mogadishu.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), a specialised agency of the United Nations promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalisation and environmental sustainability, is implementing the project ‘Business Incubators to Support Entrepreneurship and MSME Creation in Somalia’.

The project seeks to work with business incubators in Somalia to promote inclusive and sustainable entrepreneurship development initiatives, creating jobs and economic opportunities for young men and women through the promotion and development of locally based and innovation-led business incubation services. The Somalia project is one of the BIC Africa four country projects, and part of the BIC Africa Regional Network.
